Pictures of black hairstyles
I found this site estolling the virtues of natural black hair, the site owner calls herself Priestess Jywanza - nuts! ANyway, if you scout around you can find loads of pictures of black hairstyles as well as the High priestesses poetry and a section for visitors to give the history of their natural hair. An example.
I am 18 years old and I started growing my hair out nov. 15 2003 it has been 4 months and already my hair is waving up and it is so pretty when I told people I was growing my hair out they was all like why but to me all black women are startin to look the same and if every other race can wear their hair natural why can’t we.

I agree. If we don’t use our own hair, it will fall out and we will lose it

I am 14 and my hair has always been braided, but has never really grown, ‘cause my mother kept on perming it, but I stopped perming it. I now use Olive Oil and it’s helping to stop the breakage and my hair is growing.

I’m black and I have a white dad so my hair has really tight curls. It is down to my shoulders when it’s curly. When it’s blown out, it’s halfway down my back. I don’t know what to do with it when I dont feel like blowing it out. Does anyone know a website that has hairstyle ideas for naturally curly black hair? I think we should stop wearing weaves and where our hair natural. Straight hair is for WHITE people!

I have naturally very curly (tight curls)hair. I got it because I’m black with a half whit dad. I don’t know what to do with it unless it’s blown out, but i want to start wearing it natural. Does anyone know a website with hairstyle ideas for me? I think all black women should wear their hair natural. Straight hair is for WHITE people.

Wearing a quick weave will make your hair grow really really quick. I used to get my quick weave done every two weeks and by two months my hair had grown all tha way out. Because u not puttin heat on it or chemicals its just growin and anotha way to keep ya hair growin is to drink a glass of water before u go to sleep

Hi, I needed some advice! I am 22 years old, and I currently have a short hairdo (just bottom ear length)I really want my hair to grow, but it doesn’t seem to do so. I know stress can sometimes prolong hair growth but it’s been years since I have been trying to grow it. Does anyone have any kind of suggestions as to what product(s) I can use to make it grow faster. I was also thinking of getting a weave to give my hair a breask from everything-is that a good idea?
Comment by Keisha — 12/22/2004 @ 4:56 pm
well i feel that while at prom i dont want to worry about my hair getting all sweaty a frizzing i think that weave is the best way to go even if its for that one night
Comment by nisha — 12/27/2004 @ 11:19 pm
IT IS TRUE THAT WEARING SEW-INS IS HEALTHY. IT ALLOWS YOUR HAIR TO GROW WITHOUT PUTTING HEAT TO IT AND ADDING PRODUCTS SUCH AS GEL TO IT. HOWEVER, THE MAINTINANCE OF YOUR HAIR EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A WEAVE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. IT TAKES DILLIGENT WASHING, CONDITIONING, AND TREATMENT TO REALLY AID IN THE GROWTH OF YOUR HAIR

everyone needs to quit trying to be like other people. black women- we do not have soft, flowing hair, and in most cases, we never will. Accept yourselves for who you are and love your hair no matter what texture, how long or what color. I’m bi-racial, and my hair is nice, but sometimes I wish it would be curly, or that I could wear certain styles. BUT!! I also appreciate the hair I already have, and I take very good care of it. You are all beautiful, no matter what your hair looks like. Remember… only you can determine what your hair can look like.
Comment by ashley — 12/29/2004 @ 9:16 pm
I think everyone should love and appreciate the hair you were born with. If you got nappy hair- oh well, somebody else hates their too straight too fine hair. If we all had the hair we wanted, the world would be at a loss of products. Y’all know all curly-haired folks want straight hair, and all straight-haired want the curls. Be satisfied with what you’ve been given. Always take care of your hair, and it will look good.

I have meduim hair but am cutting it shorter. Short hair, I think, is easier to cope with. =)

I just want to say that my daughter is 9 and had gotten one of those home perms, and it ruined her hair. She is now starting to grow it out, but her hair grows so slow. We come from a town where alot of products are not available for her hair type, so it is pretty hard for her. Maybe my the time she is a teen it will grow?!!
Comment by Dawn — 1/20/2005 @ 6:28 pm
my hair is natural now. it was relaxed before and boy was it long. anyway, i cut it all off and its about up to my neck. i want to relax it again, and have it short. i am so tempted! my hair is really thick and untameable. i can only wear single braids and thats it. i am fed up!
